Students are the best source of information when it comes to evaluating your word-conscious classroom. As a matter of fact, students will be the first to tell their teachers and parents what they need for building their own word-consciousness. Scott et. al. (2008) reminds us that we need to help students to develop an appreciation for words and how words work to convey meaning through images and thoughts.
In our second episode, you will hear from two fifth grade girls on how they react to sophisticated words and what teachers can do to support their word knowledge acquisition.
